Nader Tehrani (born 1963 in London) is an Iranian-American designer and educator. Tehrani founded NADAAA —a practice dedicated to the advancement of design innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and an intensive dialogue with the construction industry—in 2011 with partner Katherine Faulkner, later being joined by partner Arthur Chang. Nader Tehrani is a Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture at MIT. He is also principal of NADAAA, an architectural firm operating out of both Boston and New York City. Relatively new to MIT, he is a dedicated part of the MIT community, and runs along Memorial drive most mornings. NADER TEHRANI, PRINCIPAL For his contributions to architecture as an art, Nader Tehrani has been selected as the recipient of the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ 2020 Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize. Working on interdisciplinary platforms, Nader Tehrani’s research has been focused on the transformation of the building industry, innovative material applications, and the development of new means and methods of construction, as exemplified in his work with digital fabrication.

Nader Tehrani, a professor of architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has been appointed dean of the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. He joins Cooper this month. Tehrani served as the head of MIT’s Department of Architecture from 2010 to 2014.

He succeeds Yung Ho Chang, who led the department since 2005. The son of an Iranian diplomat, Tehrani was born in England and raised in Pakistan, South Africa, Iran, Italy and the United States. Nader Tehrani, 53, was born in London.
